Lego lighthouse

Now here’s a merging of two obsessions of mine: it’s a Lego lighthouse.

Oddly enough, there are no official Lego lighthouse sets … except this one. This was a special giveaway set at the grand Lego store opening at Raleigh’s Crabtree Valley Mall. This set is a rare collectible. I didn’t get one of those, but I was able to locate all the pieces I needed to make the set anyway.

Spooky House 2005

Here is this year’s Halloween “Spooky House”, which I finally got around to photographing today. It’s based on an actual victorian Second Empire style mansion in Auburn, Maine. It’s guarded by an ogre and populated by a ghost, two skeletons, and some other freaks.

Lego cottage

I haven’t built any Lego structures of interest for about a year. Daughter and I will get out the Lego sets on odd weekend afternoons while Son naps, but I just haven’t had the creative urge to build anything that requires any amount of planning. I built about 3 aborted vehicles. Then finally I decided to put my most excellent black roof tiles to good use, and came up with this quick-and-easy cottage. Probably the hardest part of it was explaining to Daughter what a cottage is.

Colonial Home

Georgian colonial style home, as one might find in New England. The boxiness and symmetry of this style makes it easy to render in Lego. More photos at MOCpages.
